Nesnick Family & Sports Chiropractic

Many people dismiss chiropractic as being something only for back pain, but chiropractic treatment can be used to treat a wide variety of physical issues, such as migraines and headaches, chronic pain, carpal tunnel, pain due to injury or muscle strain, and much more.

Frozen Shoulder

disc injury

Frozen shoulder symptoms vary from person to person. It depends on how long you have had symptoms and how severe they are. Some people start off with mild discomfort in the shoulder which limits movement in only one direction and can progress involving other movement patterns. If left untreated frozen shoulder can limit movement in the shoulder altogether. One of the first symptoms is mild pain that may or may not wake you up in the middle of the night that will subside as the day goes on. Another issue is trying to reach behind you and or overhead that cause a “twinge” or “catch” that comes and goes. Often times the correct diagnosis is overlooked and classified as just a stiff shoulder. All of these are signs that something is starting to develop and that a further evaluation is necessary.

Frozen shoulder is often not diagnosed until it has progressed far enough to limit motion greater than 50% . There is no known causative factor in frozen shoulder. In our experience it usually starts with a “tweak” that starts in the arm that just grows stronger and eventually locks the shoulder from moving with and without help. As extremity specialists with the council on extremity adjusting we can access and address shoulder issues long before they completely lock up and need further extensive care.

Traditional treatments for frozen shoulder don’t begin until there is range of motion loss greater than 50% as this is when it is typically diagnosed. When finally diagnosed your doctor will usually start off with cortisone injections followed by a long course of physical therapy to help improve range of motion. Typically this method fails without a complete return to optimal range of motion which rebounds backwards and more often will result in surgery.

As extremity specialists we have a different and unqiue approach to care that address not only the shoulder joint but other joints and muscles that may be contributing to the loss of motion. First we access the joint and notice any abnormalities in motion, muscle tone and neurological control. We then determine which phase your are in: Mild, Limited, Severe or Complete. Each phase has different protocols that help address any issues and determine length of treatment.

We believe that our approach help you not only with your shoulder but can help with other areas that may or may not have yet been advanced enough to show symptoms. By detecting and correcting these issue we strive to prevent and prolong your quality of life. Call us today to get started the longer you wait the more severe this frozen shoulder may become.
